Raw honey from our farm in the Matanuska Valley. Net weight of the honey is 11oz.
Abeille Alaska Honey is drawn from 10 hives on our farm. It is 100% raw and unfiltered. We use a refractometer to determine the moisture content, and it averages around 16% moisture. We do not use chemicals of any kind on our hives. Our bee colonies tend to be strong partly because we grow flowers and vegetables so close to their hives. They don’t need to go far to forage.
None of our flowers and vegetables are sprayed with synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. Our bees make their honey from a mixture of wild and cultivated flowers & herbs nectar. In the early spring, the bee hives smell like poplar catkins. Late in the summer, the bees fly all around the sunflowers.
We do our best to overwinter our bees, but the variability of the modern winters makes this endeavor harder each year. For this reason, we are exploring different varieties of bees. We currently keep both Italian and Buckfast bees.
We buy our bees from Steve Victors at Big Lake and we are very grateful for all that he does to ensure we receive healthy bees.
